Oh, believe me when I say I contemplated cheating. I seriously contemplated slipping "Sunshine" into my Top 10 for 2012 because, hey, it really was one of the best movies I saw this year. It's just that "Sunshine" was actually a movie from 2007. (Longtime Cinema Romantico readers know that I believe 2007 to be the greatest year for film I have ever experienced, and this is just further proof. Five years later and I am still seeing great films from 2007.)
I wrote a review of it. I explained how I felt it maintained its brilliance in spite of a mostly woeful third act and how if true greatness is glimpsed at a movie it must be noted and appreciated despite what it does (very) wrong. I stand by every word of it. I do not wish to rehash. I only to wish to re-advise the immense glory of this movie and to officially announce its status as the best non-2012 movie I saw in 2012.
